Natural Wonder: Monument Valley, Utah, United States

Monument Valley in Utah is said to be one of the most photographed places on earth. The valley is host to towering sandstone rock formations that have been sculpted over time and soar 400 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor. Combined with the surrounding mesas, buttes, and desert environment, it truly is one of the natural wonders of the world.

Set aside by the Navajo Tribal Council in 1958, the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park covers almost 92,000 acres in northern Arizona and southern Utah and lies within the Navajo Nation reservation.

This remote, inspiring place demands a closer look. Enjoy hiking, jeep tours, horseback riding and stargazing in Monument Valley. Visitors may explore the 17-mile scenic drive in private vehicles or book a half-day or full-day jeep tour to explore the area's backroads and sacred lands with the help of a local guide.

Stay the night and step out after dark to appreciate the timelessness and wonder of the Milky Way. Stopping to appreciate the rhythms of this ancient, sacred land has the ability to change your perspective if you take the time to let it.

Natural Wonder: Blyde River Canyon, South Africa

One of the most beautiful places in South Africa is the Blyde River Canyon. It is the third largest Canyon in the world, and second largest in Africa and second largest in Africa after the Fish River Canyon.

The Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga, South Africa, extends for 50kms along the lip of the great African escarpment. From the canyon rim guests can look eastwards over the layered rocks of the canyon walls and the Three Rondavels to the Lowveld plain, 1 600 metres below.

It was at this point that the ancient super continent, Gondwanaland, broke apart and Madagascar and Antarctica tore free from Africa some 200 million years ago. The broken edge of the continent was gradually tilted upwards by the weight of a vast shallow sea stretching west to beyond Pretoria. The sea left behind layer upon layer of dolomite and sandstone laid down as sediments over millions of years.

Famous Landmark: Gaztelugatxe, Spain

One of the must places to visit in Basque Country, Spain, is the San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.

The bridge transitions into a narrow path that contains 241 steps and zigzags its way back and forth to the top. On the highest point of the island is a small church dedicated to John the Baptist.

Natural Wonder: Twelve Apostles, Australia

The Twelve Apostles is one of the most well-known highlights of the Australia's Great Ocean Road.

They are massive limestone structures that tower 45 metres above the tempestuous Southern Ocean. Created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland beginning 10–20 million years ago, the stormy Southern Ocean and blasting winds gradually eroded the softer limestone, forming caves in the cliffs. The caves eventually became arches and when they collapsed rock stacks were left isolated from the shore. Behind the eight remaining stacks (five have fallen since their discovery) are majestic cliffs, around 70 metres high.

The Twelve Apostles are located 275 kilometres west of Melbourne in the Port Campbell National Park, approximately a four-hour drive along the Great Ocean Road.

Natural Wonder: Moraine Lake, Canada

Moraine Lake is a beautiful, glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is one of Canada’s most popular destinations and is open mid-May through mid-October.

The lake has a surface area of 50 hectares. Being glacially fed, it doesn't reach its crest until mid to late June. The lake has a distinctive shade of blue. The colour is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.

Moraine Lake is located near Lake Louise village. The 13 km road to Moraine Lake opens the Tuesday after Victoria Day in mid-May and closes the Tuesday after Canadian Thanksgiving in mid-October. During the winter, the road is trackset for skiing and the lake itself inaccessible due to avalanche hazard.

Natural Wonder: Preikestolen, Norway

The Preikestolen is one Norway's most spectacular places.  It rises 604 metres above the Lysefjord.

The mountain plateau of about 25 x 25 metres was most probably shaped by the expansion of ice some 10 000 years ago. Water that froze broke loose large edged blocks of stone that the ice glacier brought along on its course. Its shape looks like it has been carved out with a knife. The angular pattern of the fissure is evidently visible when looking at the plateau from above.

In the old days, the name of the plateau was Hyvlatånnå (planed tooth), and was already then well known as a landmark for fjord travellers in the Lysefjord. It was not until around 1900, that the first tourist travelled to the top and Preikestolen as a touristic destination was discovered.

Navagio Beach is a beautiful beach on the coast of Zakynthos island in Greece. It is rumoured that the ship was smuggling contraband and was chased by the Greece Navy when it ran aground...
